Frequently Asked Questions
We provide below answers to most commonly asked questions. Should
you want to have further information, please contact us.
What can I expect when I work with a NSM consultant?
You can expect to work closely with a lead consultant who draws on
the wealth of knowledge and experience of his/her team. You can
expect to be involved and informed at every stage of the process,
and to be asked to contribute and commit to it. You can also expect
to work with a consultant who is responsive, flexible, and well
versed in the challenges facing organisations. Our whole-systems
approach is influenced by our commitment to deliver effective
services and solutions.
What is capacity building? How can a consultant fit in with that
process?
NSM defines capacity building as the process of developing and
strengthening skills, abilities, processes and resources that
organisations and communities need to survive, adapt, and thrive in
a fast-changing world. Consultants can help you identify areas that
would benefit from capacity building and address them strategically.
What kinds of organisations do you work with?
We work with companies and non-profit organisations of all sizes:
from unincorporated groups to national organisations. Please refer
to our Customer page for more information about our Clients profile.
How much can I expect to pay for a consultant?
Fees vary depending on the scope and complexity of a project, but
NSM rates generally range from $100-$150 per hour.
How do I know if consulting is right for my organisation?
Our consulting team can provide valuable experience and perspective
if you find your organisation facing challenges and key decisions.
If you would like to clarify your mission or strategic vision,
evaluate programs and services, share experiences and network within
your enterprise, improve administrative or financial management to
save time and money, then use of consulting services may be a
logical first step.
Why engage the consulting services of NSM?
- If the same problems are appearing in many places in
your organisation;
- If communication is problematic at many levels;
- If you feel you may not be prepared for an anticipated
change or decisions;
NSM can facilitate an organisational development process for
you. We help organisations become sustainable—able to manage
change—while maintaining mission, strategic focus, and
organisational effectiveness.
How can I make the most of my consulting relationship?
- Clarify your goals and ensure that your organisation is
prepared to meet them; your board and staff should support the
consultancy and the process it creates.
- Develop a partnership with the consultant; anticipate active
participation in the process you develop together.
- Commit to finding and resolving causes, not symptoms; this
can take time.
- Be open with information; the consultant can't help with
issues (s)he doesn't understand or know about.
- Be honest about limits in time, resources, and commitment.
